hi!
i'm from the infamous johannesburg area, but i spend as much time as possible in cape town and surround. i would stay clear from the Kruger national park, and only go to the private game farms for a gamedrive (hardly more expensive than kruger) and actually be able to get close to the animals. for example Tshukudu game lodge, which have a tame cheetah who sleep on your bed, tame eliphant etc, but all in their natural wild habitat. be sure to spend a day in stellenboch when in cape town, and rather take the scenic route from gordensbay to hermanus on your way to durban, instead of the highway. from hermanus you can take the highway (N2). make an hour stop in betty's bay to walk in the penguin colony, and don't miss wilderness / plettenberg bay, KNYSNA / STORMSRIVIER area, it is really beautiful. at laest make a stop in knysna. durban is ugly and dirty, nearby mtinzini is a beautiful beach, and of course the drakensberge, lovely mountainrange in natal.
please lock your car and belongings away safely, dont let people see you've got money, dont walk alone at night, if you've heard rumours that SA is dangerous, its true. luckily you wont be in the gauteng provence, which is the worst.
i hope that helped...
eliné :)
